The nations will jointly host the 2026 World Cup in various North American locations.
The U.S., Mexico, and Canada have launched a joint initiative to address the underhanded business practices that are expected to accompany the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The three countries were selected to co-host the popular soccer event, taking place across two Canadian cities, three Mexican cities, and eleven locations in America.
The Justice Department will be partnering with Mexico’s Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) and Canada’s Competition Bureau to reach out to local communities near the selected sites, soliciting their help to identify and prosecute those attempting to rig bets and price-fix products for sale.
“This historic event will bring billions of dollars in economic activity to cities across the United States, Mexico, and Canada,” said Jonathan Kanter of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. “The Antitrust Division will be vigilant in detecting anticompetitive conduct by any businesses and individuals that exploit the economic opportunities created by the games. We look forward to working with our international partners on this effort.”
